Neonatology is a subspecialty in paediatric care that deals with the medical care for the new-born infants, especially the sick, premature new-borns and babies with low birth weight than required, or with any infections, heart problems or congenital defects.

HolyFamily Hospital is the first hospital in Idukki District to start full time Neonantology Service.  Holy Family Hospital Neonatology department have an excellent track record of caring many extreme preterm babies( born at 28 weeks and birth weight as low as 800 grams) and is the only centre in Idukki district doing therapeutic hypothermia(whole body cooling) for Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) due to birth asphyxia .

The team of Neonatologist and nursing staffs are skilled and equipped with latest technologies to render care for new-born and pre-term babies with the support of  Level 3  NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) with the following facilities*:

Dedicated High-Frequency Nasal Cannula(HFNC)

Conventional Ventilators and CPAP

PICC,UVC,UAC placement

Isolation Room

Bedside Physiological Monitors

Incubators and Open Head Warmers

Digital Syringe and Infusion Pumps

Specially Designed Nursery to promote the development of the new-born (special lighting to promote sleep/awake cycle, low ambient noise level)
